spotlight /education Semco Module Now Controls Multiple Zones of Active Chilled Beams Semco introduces the Neuton Multiple Zone, a controlled chilled beam pump module capable of controlling active chilled beams in up to five small rooms in commercial buildings. The pump module consists of modified onboard software, combination temperature/humidity moni- toring sensors and thermostatically con- trolled hydronic valves for up to five zones. While the original Neuton was designed to control up to 10 chilled beams in a single zone, the Neuton Multiple Zone can control several chilled beam spaces with similar heating/cooling/humidity loads, such as single-user offices, schools and other small spaces. This cuts chilled beam control equipment and installation costs by 60 percent. CHECK OR CIRCLE #101 Latest Line of Classroom Sinks Makes Cleanup Easy Elkay's latest line of classroom sinks is fit- ted with Perfect Drain, an Elkay-exclusive edgeless drain system. Classroom messes have nowhere to go, but down the drain. Perfect Drain eliminates the gap around the drain, reducing bacteria and grime that build up in and around the drain area. Four models are available in four different depths: standard 7 ½ inch, ADA 6 ½, 6 and 5 ½ inch. All come with vandal-resis- tant assembly. Sinks are made to order with a 10-day lead time. "These Perfect Drain Classroom sinks will make cleanup in the classroom a breeze," stated Gary Israelson, product manager, Elkay Manufacturing. "With the addition of Perfect Drain, messy class- room projects will no longer be an issue as all cleanup can take place right there in the classroom — making life easier for teachers and janitorial staff in schools across the country." CHECK OR CIRCLE #102 New Floor-Mount Toilets Bring Universal Solution to Education Applications Recently introduced, Kohler's Juvenile Ultra bowls feature a new flushing engine with enhanced performance. The toilets will operate with any flush valve, from 1.1 to 1.6 gpf, even below code-rec- ommended flow rates for buildings with low water pressure. The rear spuds oper- ate from 1.28 to 1.6 gpf. It targets elementary schools for children kindergarten through third-grade age. These new bowls feature the option of an antimicrobial protection solution baked into the finish- ing process, ensuring that the antimicrobial solution cannot "rub" or "wear" off. The layer inhibits the growth of mold, mildew, stain and odor-causing bacteria on the surface, which is key in many educa- tion installations. CHECK OR CIRCLE #104 Greenheck's New High Turndown Furnace Improves Occupant Comfort Greenheck's new high turndown furnace is a tubular-style heat exchanger, offering up to 16:1 seamless turndown per furnace for more precise temperature control. This option is ideal for variable volume applications when decreased airflow causes excessive cycling with lower turndown furnaces. The high turndown furnace option is avail- able on Greenheck's Model IGX makeup air unit, ERCH dedicated outdoor air unit and RV and RVE rooftop ventilators. Ideal appli- cations include schools, hospitals, hotels and commercial office buildings. Higher turndown allows for a decreased minimum firing rate and less furnace cycling on part-load days resulting in improved occu- pant comfort. The high turndown furnace's internal microprocessor includes standard furnace commissioning sequence providing quick and easy initial unit startup. CHECK OR CIRCLE #105 Today's students are tomorrow's future. And the learning environment should always support this notion. Whether an elementary classroom or large university campus, HVAC and plumbing products are integral to keeping classrooms cool and the knowledge pipeline flowing. This roundup is a snapshot of the latest products that make the grade in education facilities. Making the Grade Sanctuairy Promotes Healthy IAQ in Schools, Protects HVAC Equipment from Dust Buildup Sanctuairy with ActivePure Technology, from Beyond by Aerus, attaches di- rectly to the HVAC system ductwork in classrooms, offices and more to remove air pollution, VOCs, surface contaminants, odors and dust, resulting in a cleaner, healthier and more efficient indoor environment without the use of ozone. ActivePure Technology destroys up to 99 percent of surface and airborne contaminants in areas up to 3,000 square feet. Sanctuairy purifies the air and reduces particles that can ir- ritate allergies and asthma. It also protects people from dangerous contaminants and pollutants, and protects the heating and cooling system from dust buildup. CHECK OR CIRCLE #103 Keeping Classrooms Comfortable with Bard Climate System The Bard I-TEC classroom climate system provides superior indoor air quality and the ultimate in quiet operation. Vented above the sill at window level, the unit is designed to be aesthetically pleasing indoors and out. Units blend into the classroom with magnetic dry erase board covers, and increase useable school square footage by eliminating the need for equipment rooms. Exterior-mounted units offer the same qual- ity, dependability and quiet operation. The HVAC units are designed to eliminate costly piping, duct-work and fire dampers, while significantly reducing installation time.
