Winter 2014/15 | Volume 2, Issue 4 8040 E. Morgan Trail, Ste. 23 Scottsdale, AZ 85258 p: (480) 361-6300 f: (480) 361-6394 W hile planning for this issue, which has an underlying theme of "AHR Expo," I realized that while I was familiar with the show, I didn't really "know" it. I was curious to learn of its origins and how it all began. So I did some research to expand my knowledge of the show's history. What I learned was interesting. In 1920, the Inter- national Exposition Company began hosting the Power & Mechanical Engineering Exposition. Heating and ventilation products were also featured at this expo, alongside power products. As interest grew in the HVAC products, even becoming more popular than the power products, IEC officials decided to launch the International Heating & Ventilating Exposi- tion in the late 1920s. The first show was sponsored by the American Society of Heating and Ventilating Engineers, later becoming ASHRAE. In 1972, the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute became co-sponsors. The International Heating & Ventilating Exposition is known today as the International Air-Conditioning, Heating, Refrigerating Exposition, or AHR Expo. That brings me to this year's show. More than 2,000 exhibitors are lined up for this year's show, which is set for Jan. 26-28 at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois. Manufacturers will not only showcase the most advanced products on the market but, according to a recent survey, more than two-thirds of exhibitors say they'll be unveiling new or upgraded products at the event (see industry news inside for more information). New HVACR products are not the only ones in the spotlight. According to the expo's organizers, plumbing has always been a major focus of the AHR Expo. In addition to attracting some of the major plumbing manufacturers, more than one-fourth of the 40,000 plus visitors (nearly 11,000) say they attend to discover new plumbing products. The most innovative plumbing products are also showcased as part of the AHR Expo Innovation Awards. This issue delves into pre-show coverage of the AHR Expo. Read on to learn about this year's Innovation Award winners and more. Also, be sure to check out in this issue the AHR Exhibitor Directory, which features highlighted exhibitors. See you at the show!
