industry /HVAC Emerson's Air Conditioning Business Announces Key Leadership Change Emerson has announced leadership changes to its air conditioning business, naming Shane Angle as vice presi- dent, sales & technical services for its Commercial and Residential Solutions platform. Angle had previously served as the company's vice president and general manager for the commercial air conditioning group. "Shane is uniquely qualified to take on this significant role. His broad HVAC market and product experience, his strategic skills and excellent interpersonal competencies will ensure our cus - tomers and partners receive the highest levels of support," said Brent Schroeder, group president of heating and air conditioning for Emerson's Commercial and Residential Solutions platform. Angle joined Emerson in 1995 and has held numerous positions of increasing responsibility in product engineer - ing, engineering management and leadership roles in product planning and marketing. Angle graduated from Kettering University, where he studied mechanical engi - neering. He has an MBA from the University of Dayton. Shane Angle Alliance for Water Efficiency Launches Cooling Technologies Research Project A lliance for Water Efficiency has launched its Cooling Technologies Research Project. The overall purpose is to gain foundational knowledge needed to create effective, targeted and appealing incentive and outreach programs to achieve greater efficiency in cooling systems. As part of AWE's broader effort to explore the potential for water conservation in urban areas, this research effort is intended to have multiple phases. PHASE I HAS FIVE BROAD GOALS: > Develop best practices for identifying water-cooled facilities in urban areas > Develop best practices for estimating con - sumptive and non-consumptive water demands for cooling > Determine the conservation potential for various improvements to traditional cooling technologies such as cooling towers > Determine the conservation potential of alternative cooling technologies > Develop practical guides, incorporating study results, to increase the effectiveness of cooling WUE incentive and outreach programs SMACNA LAUNCHES HAWAII CHAPTER SMACNA, an international trade as- sociation representing 3,500 contrac- tor firms specializing in the sheet metal and HVAC industries, recently launched its 97th chapter, SMACNA Hawaii. Covering the entire state, the chapter represents more than 40 contractor firms, which employ more than 500 union Hawaii sheet metal workers and hundreds of construction-related personnel. MESTEK PURCHASES BARCOL-AIR USA RADIANT CEILING PRODUCT DIVISION Mestek, through its subsidiary, Radiant Advantage Designs, has purchased the radiant ceiling products and certain physical assets of Barcol-Air USA and has exclusively licensed certain radiant designs and intellectual property of Barcol-Air Group of Schwerzenbach, Switzerland for manufacture and sale in North America. Founded in 1979, Barcol-Air Group is a manufacturer of radiant ceilings, hybrid systems and ventilation components. Its products for North America will be further developed, applied and manufactured at Mestek's operations in Westfield, Massachusetts. The companies are also exploring other mutually beneficial opportunities for technical and business collaboration. HOME IMPROVEMENT EVALUATION STANDARD RECOGNIZED BY ANSI The Air Conditioning Contractors of America Educational Institute Standards Task Team recently announced the ACCA Standard 12 — Home Evaluation and Performance Improvement — was approved by the American National Standards Institute. ACCA Standard 12 establishes the minimum evaluation requirements for energy consumption, water conservation, occupant comfort and indoor air quality in residential buildings. ACCA improved the 2014 version of Standard 12 by treating a home as one system comprised of many interconnected components working together to ensure the home is efficient, comfortable and healthy. The 2018 version of Standard 12 includes evaluation and improvement procedures promulgated by ACCA, the Building Performance Institute and the Residential Energy Services Network.
