/ b r i e f s / p e o p l e industry /hvac Angela Simon to Become First Woman Elected President of SMACNA As the newest member of the elected board — and vice president — for the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association, Angela Simon is tackling her new position through job shadowing and men- torship, just as she did when she became a project engineer for Menlo Park, California-based Western Allied Mechanical in 1987. Today, she is the president of Western Allied Mechanical and was awarded SMACNA's 2016 Contractor of the Year Award, in part for her work as a mentor for young workers. Simon was the first woman to serve on SMACNA's board of direc- tors, from 2007 to 2011. She will become SMACNA president in October 2019. Simon has spent much of her career sup- porting women's involvement in the industry and has served as the co-chair of SMACNA's Women in Construction Leadership Council. NADCA Welcomes New President, Chairman of the Board to its Board of Directors The National Air Duct Cleaners Association recently named longtime volunteer Richard Lantz as the association's new president and chair- man of the board. Lantz is a certified Air Systems Cleaning Specialist and Certified Ventilation Inspector with more than 20 years of ex- perience in HVAC indoor air quality inspec- tions and air duct cleaning. He has served on the NADCA board of directors since 2012, is the chairman of the Standards and Finance committees and serves in several other volunteer roles. Lantz founded his first indoor air quality company in 1994 and became a member of NADCA in 1996. After selling that business in 2005, he later returned as the general manager responsible for overall operations and business development. In 2016, Lantz launched Virginia Air Duct Cleaners where he serves as general manager. Angela Simon Richard Lantz ASHRAE, IOR Strengthen Partnership with Signing of New MoU Agreement ASHRAE and the Institute of Refrigeration have signed a new memorandum of understanding formalizing the organizations' relationship, which dates back more than a century. The new MoU outlines how the two groups will work together more closely and with more defined parameters to continue furthering and promoting the advancements of cooling- and heating-related technologies. These include but are not limited to research, joint conferences and meetings, training and education programs and publication distribution and chapter collaboration. LG EXTENDS WARRANTIES FOR COMMERCIAL, RESIDENTIAL/LIGHT COMMERCIAL SYSTEMS LG Electronics USA Air Conditioning Technologies has extended its limited liability warranty program to 10-year parts and 10-year compressor on qualified sys- tems, including the company's variable refrigerant flow systems and residential/light commercial single- and multi-zone split product lines. LG Excellence Con- tractors will also benefit from an additional two-year parts and two-year compressor warranty for qualifying residential/light commercial systems, extending its standard limited liability warranty to 12 years for the parts and compressor. CE LAUNCHES ONLINE AHRI HVAC SYSTEM BUILDER TOOL Carrier Enterprise has launched AHRI HVAC System Builder, an online tool that provides HVAC dealers and contractors with a simple way to build AHRI-certified HVAC systems. HARDI DISTRIBUTOR PERFORMANCE DASHBOARDS BENCHMARKING SURVEY HITS RECORD PARTICIPATION Heating, Air-conditioning & Refrigeration Distributors International has released to participating members the annual operating performance benchmarking data via Distributor Performance Dashboards Powered by CoMetrics. The survey of calendar year 2016 operations experienced 23.5 percent participant growth. The record number of participants this year was possible due to a 95 percent retention rate. DPD provides participants with the ability to compare their own performance to benchmarks derived from distributors with similar sales composition or scale.
